This is possibly my favorite photo because of what happens after the photograph.  Corporal Will Perkins is the Marine behind the camera.  Shortly after this photo was taken he noticed a grenade had been thrown in between the wounded soldier and the helicopter.  He yelled “Grenade!” but nobody noticed, so he jumped onto the grenade to save the other Marines.  He is the only combat photographer to receive the Medal of Honor.
