Ode to the Warrior
Ode to the man who marches
Because others will not
Ode to the man who died
While he fought
Ode to the man in the Vietnam jungle
His worst enemy, his own aunt and uncle
Ode to the man who sprinted across Omaha shore
Ducked for cover but found death’s door
Ode to the man who fights the worst enemy
The combatant who is unseen
Ode to the man whose tears meet ink
His heart drops with every blink
Ode to the man whose friend is the night
Never fearful in the absence of light
Ode to the man whose wife never finds sleep
Her heart skips a beat with every telephone ring
Ode to the man who never was found
His spirt forever bleeds for American ground
Ode to the man who will never return
The reality is, some patriots burn
